PHAT are a British based design studio representing the collaborative work and professional partnership of Claudia Surrage and Christian Cowper. Operating in an array of creative fields, Christian and Claudia’s experience spans from furniture, lighting, and product design to ceramics, jewellery and sculpture.
"We design to explore our curiosities, expressing questions we have about the world around us."
Making has been an integral part in both Claudia Surrage and Christian Cowper's lives due to their family histories, it was inevitable that it had seeped into their work aspirations.
Claudia and Christian met at Northumbria University, where they both studied Three Dimensional Design in Furniture and Products. Through various creative endeavours; their love for art, design, and simply making things formed a strong friendship. Alongside their final major projects at Northumbria University, the development of numerous collaborative projects were also underway. Projects spanned through ceramics, jewellery and furniture design. The progression, motivation and positivity of working collaboratively strengthened each others focus, growing their creative pastimes into something more legitimate: PHAT Design Studio.
Since establishing themselves in early 2019, some notable achievements include their upcoming furniture collection with Bernhardt Design, as well as winning the Ein&Zwanzig International Design Award, and 2nd Prize in the prestigious Pure Talents Contest at IMM Cologne.
Jane met Claudia and Christian when they were displaying their work at 100% Design 2019 in London as part of the Design Fresh exhibition. Jane was really taken by their gorgeous stool designs and ceramic pieces. PHAT Design Studio designs combine youthful simplicity with elegant and functional sophistication to create stunning, fresh and unique feature pieces for your home. We are delighted to feature their Tor and Terra designs in our collections.
