All the pieces featured in our online shop are exceptionally handcrafted with the finest materials by skilled artisans, designers and master craftspeople across the British Isles. From St Ives to the Scottish Highlands, we source sophisticated, exquisite furniture and interior accessories with enduring, quality design and future heirloom status for customers who care about quality.

We are a small, enthusiastic team, based in rural Angus in Scotland, who work with chosen artists and designers from around Britain, championing the excellence in British design and constantly welcome new makers to the fold. In addition, AUTHOR designs and commissions its own high-end range of high-quality objects for our AUTHOR’s Own range. Made with stylish spaces and contemporary lifestyles in mind, these pieces are made to last. We love collaborating with makers to create pieces exclusive to AUTHOR.

AUTHOR is also an interior design studio, working with private clients on residential and commercial projects. No venture is too big or too small, from full turn key projects to helping you style a small corner in your living space, the AUTHOR team is on hand to help you author your own design story.

Our mission at AUTHOR is to support British designers and craftsmanship by showcasing these exceptionally well-made designs in our inspiring collections and telling the stories and provenance behind the pieces.

We focus on small runs of unique, bespoke furniture and interior accessories that are 100% British designed and made. Each piece is handcrafted individually with love for each and every customer, often as limited editions or to personal customisations, meaning that our designs are truly exclusive and rare. Longer lead times can occur as many of these objects are made to order; however, by turning our backs on mass production, we are investing in and supporting exceptional designers and makers across Britain, many of whom produce on their own.

We advocate the principles of Slow Design and the Slow Furniture Movement, focusing on a holistic approach to design and the ethical, sustainable and social impacts around it. We reject the vagaries and unregulated labour processes of mass production and encourage customers to embrace mindful consumption and to be aware of the pieces they collect in their homes. We believe that makers, designers and artisans should be paid and treated fairly for their craft. We do this by having a transparent, flexible and open relationship with our makers and making sure they are paid fairly for their work.
