From her studio in Bristol, artist, designer and embroiderer, Jacky Puzey, creates stunning fashion and interior pieces by fusing traditional craftsmanship with digital technology.
Original trained in Fine Art, Jacky's work expanded into textile and wearable artworks. It was whilst making a series of embroidered bespoke suits as part of a PhD project in Fashion, Textiles and Visual Culture at Bath Spa University that her embroideries started attracting many commissions. The bespoke tailoring she learnt instilled a love of detail and craftsmanship. Jacky developed her practice as she became increasingly drawn to textile based works and wearable art, and then began expanding into decorative arts including wallpaper and embroidery. From there, her talent and work has gone from strength to strength. Jacky won the Hand and Lock Prize for embroidery in 2015 and was selected for the Crafts Council’s Hothouse business development scheme in 2016. Jacky's business has developed into specialising in statement interiors pieces and bespoke commissions for private clients, interior and fashion designers, and artists. Jacky shows regularly at Decorex and London Craft Week, and has most recently shown at Focus in 2019.
For Jacky, the craftsmanship and skills specify the concept of her pieces: "As an artist and designer, my practice fuses artistic concept with traditional artisanship. I practice at a disciplinary intersection between concept and materiality; art and contemporary craft; visual cultures and contemporary technologies. Combining traditional craft skills with digital technology, I use faux fur, feathers, tweed and organza as well as drawing, laser cutting and digital embroidery to explore a baroque pleasure in imagery and style."
We have chosen Jacky's exquisite Red Squirrel & Peacock Velvet Footstool as well as her gorgeous, limited edition Red Squirrel Velvet Square Cushion and Pomegranate Velvet Bolster Cushion for our collection. We love the different materials Jacky combines such as the faux fur for the red squirrel's tail, the appliqué silk organza feathers and peacock feathers for the peacock's tail and shimmering embroidery for the luscious pomegranates. It as if these majestic creatures are coming to life.
Jacky pushes the boundaries on the intersection of digital technologies and traditional artisan craftsmanship to create such innovative, unique and stunning designs that can be loved in your home for a lifetime.
