Iona Buchanan

Iona Buchanan is a botanically trained illustrator and artist working in Scotland who has adapted her pieces for everyday household items.

Gorgeous watercolour paintings making everyday items more beautiful.

Scottish artist, Iona Buchanan, gave up work in a commercial art gallery 20 years ago to create paintings rather than sell them and her original artworks have been in demand ever since. Trained as a botanical illustrator, her passion first came for creating detailed watercolour paintings of fruit, flowers and vegetables; however, commissions from private collectors has broadened Iona's range to include cartoons, birds and sea life as seen with the Lobster pieces featured in our collection.

Looking for ways to make her illustrative paintings more widely available, Iona has adapted them to practical pieces such as aprons and tea towels, giving these everyday items an exquisite touch of beauty and charm. Living in rural Scotland, Iona's inspiration stems from her surroundings like the wildflower meadow she has grown and the views from her window.

Author's Choice

Iona's watercolour designs are absolutely stunning and give useful everyday items some much-needed beauty. Her Lobster design is a favourite of ours from its natural blue colouring that stands out against its white cotton drill background to the tiny details such as the hairs on its legs. It is a design that will bring you joy every day as you use the tea towel or apron version.
