Ana Kerin - Author

Ana Kerin of KANA London creates beautiful stoneware with contemporary design and a rustic feel.

KANA London was born as a result of Ana's training in sculpture and her background in fine art, eventually becoming a fully developed project in London in 2012.

Sculpting and an affinity for working with clay led Ana to applying the principles of her art work - the tactile, hand built aesthetics, the traces of her fingerprints and hands on the surface - into functional ceramics.

Her approach to work is experimental and playful, as she never follow a procedure, and invents new recipes and techniques to making daily. Ana works with a unique mixture of clays and mix her own glazes, often turning away from traditional ceramic practice to make something unique and contemporary. Hand building, rather than turning on the wheel, further emphasises the individuality of each piece.

All of Ana's work is stoneware and food safe glazed. They are made from durable materials are suitable for ovens and dishwashers, albeit as with any precious ceramics, hand washing is advised as is frequent oven use.

We love Ana's experimental and playful approach to work. She works with a unique mixture of clays and mixes her own glazes meaning no two pieces are the same. They are all individual and unique. The hand building technique Ana uses often leaves specific mark-making that ranges from fingerprint to small indentations. This, along with her large brushstrokes of the glazing gives her pieces a rustic and tactile feel that we adore. It really makes you feel the artist's presence in creating the piece and will bring you joy every time you use one of her plates, bowls or cups.
