Distinctive Furniture & Accessories

Knowles and Christou have been making handmade wallpaper, fabric and printed furniture in Wales since 1992.

Jonathan Knowles and Yiolanda Christou have been designing and working together since they founded Knowles and Christou in 1992.

The Knowles & Christou team began their work with their first passion: printed pattern. They started with fabric then wallpaper and are now evolving print and textures onto their furniture pieces, from intaglio gesso finishes to wrapping pieces with printed glass patterns. Each of their designs are handmade and bring the past to the present by using a range of experimental techniques and processes. The handcrafting and hand printing of their exquisite fabrics, wallpapers and furniture demonstrates the highly skilled British craftsmanship and time that goes into creating their stunning pieces that are all created in their own workshops.

A hands on approach and a zeal for experimenting is shown clearly through Knowles & Christou's gorgeous collection. Their fabrics and wallpapers are printed by hand in house, so there are no rules restricting depth of colour, the repeat and the finish. The team are open to bespoke commissions, sizes and colours to create a piece that is truly unique to you. The freedom to create and make what and when they like depending on their current obsessions is the team's favourite aspect of being designers and makers. Yiolanda cites their own imaginations as the place where they find inspiration for their designs, creating, "a magic apartment which we come home to and decorate."

Jane found Knowles & Christou over a decade ago when working with private clients and has been in love with their unique pieces ever since.

We love the way in which they use printed glass within pieces of furniture that celebrate high pattern in a clean way. We almost want to call it "minimalist maximalism." Knowles & Christou cabinets make a real statement piece in any room, a true testament to the stunning British craftsmanship that goes into creating them. We particularly love the cushion fronted glass Sugarcube Cabinet and the Lulu Cabinet with its gorgeous Ikebana printed glass finish. Both cabinets can be adapted to function as cocktail cabinets or AV units making them truly versatile pieces.
