CREATIVITY GROUNDED IN NATURE
Caroline's passion for making was shaped in childhood by her paternal grandmother, an artist and gardener who created a truly magical garden. It was there that she spent endless hours mudlarking in the stream, building fairy gardens, and creating hidden dens. Those early moments instilled in Caroline a deep connection to nature and a love of quiet, imaginative making that continues to inform her work.
Creativity has always been a constant. Caroline went on to study textiles at Goldsmiths, where the course encouraged an experimental and open approach to materials. A defining moment came when she discovered an antique porcelain flower from a chandelier and was unable to source more. Drawn to its delicacy, she learned how to create them herself. An exploration that became the foundation of her practice.
Today, Caroline's work is guided by the natural world. As a keen gardener, she is continually inspired by organic forms, subtle textures, and the fleeting beauty found in nature. She is most fulfilled by the process itself, watching an idea evolve and gradually come to life, from its earliest conception to its final form.
She is particularly influenced by the work of Claire Basler, Claire Curneen, and Edmund de Waal, whose sensitivity to material and form deeply resonates with her own approach.
She is currently developing a series of large Bloom bowls. Pieces that are both delicate and technically demanding. Each bowl must hold a profusion of porcelain flowers while maintaining a sense of lightness and fragility, capturing a quiet balance between strength and delicacy.
At AUTHOR, we are drawn to Caroline’s work for its quiet elegance and intricate craftsmanship. Each piece reflects a deep sensitivity to material and form, capturing the fleeting beauty of nature with remarkable delicacy. There is a timeless quality to her work, both thoughtful and tactile that resonates strongly with our values.
