Founded in 1982 by Four Pennies band member Fritz Fryer and his partner Joan Graham, the company began by restoring and selling high quality antique lighting.
When Fritz and Joan retired in 2004, Simon and Karen Wallis-Smith bought the business and it has continued to grow from strength to strength. Simon and Karen came across Fritz Fryer when they bought some lights from Margaret, who still works for the company, in 1999. They had just moved to Herefordshire and were renovating a cottage when they found Fritz Fryer in Ross-On-Wye and instantly fell in love with the shop. When they heard Fritz and Joan were selling the business, they leapt at the chance to take over the reigns and, in June 2004, became the proud new owners of the business.
Antique lighting is at the heart of the business. Today their antique lighting is sourced from all over the UK and Europe. Carefully selected at auctions, antique fairs and the odd lucky find - particularly when Karen and Simon are routing through the brocante markets in the south of France. They pride themselves on the quality of their Antique Lighting Collection. Hand restored on-site in their Herefordshire workshops by skilled craftsmen, their focus is always on the quality of the original materials. Their expertise in this area means they instantly know when a well-made light fitting that has deteriorated over the years can be repaired. This is what creates the true essence of the Antique Lighting Collection at Fritz Fryer and why customers know them as ‘The Lighting Specialists’.
We have chosen to feature a range of Fritz Fryer's contemporary wall lights, pendant lights and table lamps that are all handmade in their Herefordshire workshop by their talented and skilled team.
