AUTHOR has the exclusive honour of showcasing Jacky Puzey’s one-of-a-kind Hare Screen at this year’s London Art Fair. The Fair, which will be hosted at the Business Design Centre in Islington from 20th-24th April 2022, is a fantastic opportunity to discover and explore the very best in Contemporary and Modern Art.

Jacky Puzey is a contemporary embroidery artist, who combines traditional embroidery techniques with digital technology to stitch rich and vibrant bespoke textile artworks and luxury furniture pieces. Inspired by international textile cultures and urban imagery, Jacky’s work begins with detailed drawings and meticulous research which she develops into some of the UK’s finest embroidered bespoke pieces.

These pieces inhabit the beautiful intersection between functional and decorative, combining form and function to make true functional art pieces and the Hare Screen is no exception.

The Hare Screen room divider is a fusion of beautiful fabrics and detailed observations luxuriously embroidered on a bespoke handmade wooden frame. Made from a mixture of fabrics, the Hare Screen depicts a richly embroidered hare in a palette of blues, golds, bronzes and oranges drinking silently from a pond in the last rays of sunlight in an urban park. The darkening foliage created from silk organza, cotton organdie and layers of threads adds to the drama of the scene.

The hare is directly embroidered on a central panel of vintage kimono fabric with cotton organdie as the predominant fabric enabling the screen to appear semi-sheer when back-lit whilst the central elements of the design remain clearly visible. The reverse of the textile panel is plain blue cotton organdie, allowing a certain amount of light to filter through to highlight the embroidery on the front.

Embroidery detailing on the piece

This richly worked embroidered screen combines the detail and luxurious theatrical feel of 19th century decorative fabrics and scenic wallpapers, with a contemporary theme of urban wildlife. The embroidered hare, in a sunset urban park, creates a beautiful meditation on contemporary ‘wild’ cities, an edgy ‘baroque’ update on scenic decor. It took around 4 months for Jacky to create this exclusive statement art piece from start to finish, allowing for framing and constructing the textile substrate as well.

The frame is crafted from beautiful oiled Black American Walnut and the feet are removable so the piece can be wall hung or free standing. The screen is delivered with the feet separately, and screen and feet are slotted together on delivery. This gorgeous piece can also be reframed to client order, to suit the client’s space. We will be happy to discuss this, and then to quote and arrange for the client’s desired frame. This one-of-a-kind statement piece is equally suitable for country homes or urban apartments.
