Very excitingly, last week saw the launch of author to the world during london design week 2017.
The venue was the most perfect: Blacks Private Members Club on Dean Street in Soho. A fabulous Georgian townhouse built in 1732 and once the home to Charles Fortnum of Fortnum & Mason. Blacks is home to fascinating, exuberant characters and appreciators of all things art and design. Each and every person we met was welcoming and enthusiastic of AUTHOR, encouraging and interested in our venture.
The Blacks team were the most helpful and created an atmosphere in every sense of the word; the cool Black Collins gin cocktails, the Earl Grey tea, the stunningly delicious nibbles and the Nyetimber English sparkling wine that flowed effortlessly into the evening. As darkness descended, the candles were lit, the fire crackled and the ambience flowed steadily without an opportunity to rest until the end.
THE AUTHOR TEAM BROUGHT WITH THEM A SELECTION OF BEAUTIFUL PIECES FROM VARIOUS COLLECTIONS PLACING THEM IN BLACKS FIRST FLOOR DINING ROOM, AS WELL AS WELCOMING SOME OF THE MAKERS WHO COULD INTRODUCE THEIR PIECES THEMSELVES.
The selection included AUTHOR’s own Wilf and Charterhouse chairs sitting on Wendy Morrison’s Mandela Viscose Rug, which was perfectly nestled beside the fireplace. In front of the fire stood Harry Morgan’s stunning Enigma sculpture, and the talented Harry was there himself to introduce his piece. David Watson was able to speak about his Sexy Legs console table that sat next to AUTHOR’s Mary Velvet chair.
A very new collaboration with AUTHOR and the fabulous Iona Crawford was unveiled. Iona has created a beautiful madras that uses motifs from AUTHOR’s Georgian manse headquarters. Iona took time from her hectic schedule to pop in and meet guests, sharing reflections on the wonderful madness that is Design Week and her inspirations for the gorgeous Cherub Madras design.
As well as larger pieces, AUTHOR featured some wonderful small and perfect ceramics by Jo Davies who also succeeded in finding time to visit and meet with guests. Some stunning AUTHOR’s Own Ellipse tables served as drink holders, and Max McCance’s gorgeous Cone table was uniformly admired, as was Anne Morrison’s stunning Raku Pot. All in all, an inspiring selection of AUTHOR’s pieces which clothed Blacks with even more personality.
Author would like to sincerely thank all of those in the design, media and fashion spheres that took time out of their jolly hectic schedules during the busiest design week of the year, to meet us and investigate who we are and what we do.
It was truly marvellous to show and tell, and we have been delighted with the reception. thank you to our makers who were able to make it, in a city often remote from their normal stomping ground, and also to Blacks for being the perfect hosts and making the launch such a success.
