Strathearn Stone and Timber began when founders Theresa and Mark Edwards were undertaking the restoration of their one hundred and eighty year old Perthshire cottage.
Finding it difficult to locate authentic natural stone and timber in Scotland, they began to search further afield. Finally, they located the perfect product in France, and imported the flagstones and aged oak flooring to Scotland. The completed floors in the cottage were stunning, and they still are.
Once their own project was finished, Mark and Theresa decided to sell the surplus flagstones and oak. The response to their advertisement was incredible, and from that small beginning the idea for Strathearn began to take shape.
Strathearn as a business began with the couple working alone from their beautifully-floored kitchen. Later, as their reputation for distinctive natural stone and timber floors grew, so did the team, and they opened their Forteviot workshop, where every floorboard and tile is crafted and hand-finished.
The couple has travelled the world sourcing products and choosing working partners who share their integrity and ethical standards. They also take great care to listen carefully to their customers.
Strathearn now stocks Scotland’s largest selection of natural wood and stone products. Their distinctive floors are enjoyed in historic castles, private houses and award-winning commercial developments.
It is still a family-run business, dedicated to craftsmanship, with the company’s master craftsmen passing down traditional skills to the apprentices.
Strathearn takes its environmental responsibility very seriously. All its European oak is individually sourced from FSC-Certified sawmills and only from countries with a long, proven commitment to reforestation and sustainability.
