Glencraft is one of the oldest known mattress manufacturers in the United Kingdom. They hold the Royal Warrant for HM The Queen.
Founded in Scotland, the company has manufactured mattresses in the North East for over 177 years.
Constantly improving but continuing to honour the materials and methods from their heritage, Glencraft produce the finest mattresses using the highest quality and natural materials that provide comfort and support. Every Glencraft mattress is made from individually coiled springs, felted wools, cottons, natural horsehair, alpaca, silks and cashmere. These materials are ethically and responsibility sourced. Glencraft processes are continually evolving and their passion for manufacturing has endured the test of time. Even today Glencraft mattresses are still handcrafted in their factory in Scotland. Craftsmanship is a word they take very seriously, as do we here at AUTHOR. Glencraft have a dedicated and loyal team, some dedicating their entire working lives to mastering their skills at the company.
Glencraft hold the Royal Warrant, supplying HM The Queen and 4 generations of the Royal Family with luxurious, comfortable mattresses at Balmoral Castle. They also supply mattresses for prestigious hotels and establishments across the UK such as The Fife Arms in Braemar (Sunday Times Hotel of the Year), Castle of Mey, The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh and Brown's Hotel, London. We love the history of Glencraft and the fact that they still produce their luxurious mattresses in their factory in Scotland, upholding their enduring, high quality heritage. Their mattresses are made with the finest and ethically sourced materials which is important to our values here at AUTHOR. Holding the Royal Warrant is a testament to the quality of Glencraft mattresses.
We also admire Glencraft's focus and history of being a social enterprise. During the first 60 years of the business from 1843, the trust fund provided a school, workshops and allowed the company to employ over 300 people. Until the end of the 19th century part of the building was also leased as a hospital for the orphans of Aberdeen. Glencraft are dedicated to their staff, having in place a strong staff training system which allows open discussion on training needs and developing our staff in both craftsmanship skills, administration and business skills.
