Lesley Lockett

Lesley Lockett runs Slated from her workshop in Ayrshire, Scotland. Slated produce beautifully cut slate cheese boards.

From her workshop in Ayrshire, Lesley makes uniquely shaped slate cheese boards.

Formerly trained as an artist at Edinburgh College of Art, Lesley specialised in painting, becoming a landscape and wildlife painter. Being fascinated with stone, Slated started as an idea between Lesley and her husband, Geoff, before making their first designs in 2014. "We discussed at length ideas of design and material. The moment we started making my designs, the flood gates opened and I designed more and more," says Lesley.

Geoff cuts the slate designs using a cutting machine before Lesley cleans and quality checks each slate and then adding hand-cut felt on the underside to protect tabletops. Lesley's designs are inspired from everywhere in everyday life. They are mostly inspired by living on the island of Britain and enjoying seeing design in everyday objects and the animals she lives with. Bespoke orders are something they take pride in so do please get in touch if you have a specific design you would like made and we can help organise this for you with Lesley.

Author's Choice

Lesley's cheese slate boards are highly useful pieces proving that function and style can work together harmoniously. From meat and cheese to fruit and chutneys, these slate boards are ideal to serve foods of all sorts when entertaining or eating al fresco. We love their unique shapes, making them a joy to look at when they are not in use. The natural cool blue and grey tones of slate are always beautiful, with each board having its own unique texture and pattern making no two the same. These boards are perfect as gifts for loved ones.
