Joe Ginniff - traditionally trained cabinet maker

JOE IS A TRADITIONALLY TRAINED CABINET MAKER WHOSE WORK HAS BEEN INSPIRED BY THE HISTORIC BUILT ENVIRONMENT.

His work aims to harness and incorporate traditional craft by capturing the essence of magical buildings, from their thatched roofs, silvering facades to the arched windows. Joe’s passion comes from seeing beautiful and unique buildings on his travels and adventures throughout the UK and has a desire to interpret the characteristics and interesting features and distil that into furniture for many more to experience.

Much of Joe's childhood was spent building, disassembling and on occasions reassembling model kits giving him his first steps and forays into simple furniture. He draws inspiration from traditional buildings, folly's and other structures striving for an audience to be transported to a different place when they view and interact with his work, replacing the mundane with a sense of wonder.

All Joe’s materials are sourced locally from a timber yard specialising in local wind-felled trees. As well as the environmental benefits, it also allows him to select exactly the types of timber he needs and makes each item very personal.

We get very excited about Joe’s work, the adventures he takes discovering traditional buildings and how he overcomes the challenges working out how to take the initial idea and turn it into a functional item of furniture. We love his admiration for original designers and builders of traditional buildings as well as his environmental values and the constant drive to push woodworking and further produce original design work with a fresh outlook.
